The world of cute country style blogs

Saturday, January 31st, 2004

So my friend Kathy is into country crafting- she does primitives, which to the untrained eye are country crafts that look like they’ve been dragged through the mud, left out to rust, and, well, been well-loved. Except she makes ‘em look like that on purpose!! She’s been making and selling them for years on Ebay and doing pretty well at it!

So I’m going to help her get a web page going for her business. She wants to do it herself but I’m going to see if I can get her to maybe let me be her web designer, because I can use the practice (and the addition to my portfolio). So I’ve been cruising around the web looking at country and prim type designs and oh my gosh there are a TON of them out there! And a whole universe of country style blogging women! Who knew? They all have sites that look similar, but that’s from an outsider’s view I guess. At this point I know better than to judge what works for others, there are so many ways to express yourself!

It never ceases to amaze me the sub cultures that exist on the internet. I mean, I’ve been here since the web started, and all these little sub-groups have sprung up, it’s really fascinating. No doubt there are communities for everyone, no matter what your interests are. Why does this surprise me still? I have no idea !

So, back to Kathy, should be no problem getting a site up for her, there are templates everywhere and very cheap yet adorable graphics to be had as well. And if she really wants to do it herself at least I can get her started. If she doesn’t want her own storefront (just a place to link back to ebay) she can get by pretty cheaply and easily.

Today I’m starting a new feature: spam header of the day.

To start, here are the winners from the last two days:

1/19: Kris Clement contributed: bivariate eleventh canonic storekeep

1/20: props to Peggy Lyon for: lauren firestone brazilian godlike compressible

And today’s winner is from the talented Ronny Gonzalez for: conceit pappy curlicue

I know there are people out there making poetry of these things. I’m of the opinion that the orginal works don’t need any dressing up, they’re beautiful all by themselves.

Enjoy!

(explanation for the slightly confused: these are actual sender names and subject lines from actual spam which I’ve received, offering me “pcodruts” and “Suplpeemnts”, such as “Sepur Viarga.”)

All the kindergarteners were asked to bring in pictures (cut from a mag, drawn, or a photo) about one of the senses for the science fair. Tim was assigned “taste.”

Trust

Tuesday, January 20th, 2004

Trust is a funny thing. It’s so easy to lose it, and nearly impossible to get it back. I’ve lost trust in someone I thought would always do the right thing. And because of that I may lose a lot of friends online that I’ve known for nearly two years. I hope not.

Luckily there are others who I trust more than ever, because of their actions of the last two days, and I’ve cast my lot with them. Time to start fresh and try again.

Sorry if this is cryptic. Those involved will understand, and those who aren’t will just have to write it off as more crazy ramblings from me.

And I thought mine was bad…

Wow. I have to say I agree.

Jersey Girl trailer

Thursday, January 15th, 2004

I’m a big Kevin Smith fan. And I’m a Jersey Girl. I really really want to like this movie.

Based on the trailer it looks like J-Lo doesn’t stick around for too long, and Liv Tyler (the Jersey Girl of the title) takes over. That’s a good thing.

It looks cute. By the trailer you’d never know Kevin directed it though. That’s not a good thing.

We’ll see (March 19.)
