BANG!

Friday, May 21st, 2004

We’re getting a new furnace & A/C installed and the boss installer is constantly yelling at the other guy. I’m guessing the other guy is his son, just from the way he’s talking to him, you know how dads talk to sons when they’re frustrated? If the other guy isn’t his son, well, he needs to quit.

Very annoying to listen to, on top of the constant banging of the ductwork! Here I wanted to work on a new template for my blog, but I can’t concentrate with all the yelling, banging.

Luckily Pat and I are going out to eat tonight. I’m really looking forward to that!

How was your day?

Cicadaville

Protect your children!

We don’t have any yet. I’m really hoping they just stay down there and don’t bother coming out of the ground around here. Maybe they all died in the floods.

Took Tim to a birthday party this afternoon at a local Karate place. I have a few friends who’s kids go there, and I’d been considering signing Tim up. Well, they had a deal just waiting for someone like me. All the guests got a free uniform and two free lessons if they set them up today. So he’ll have his lessons this week. Cute uniform!

Even better, at least one other of his friends signed up today, plus the birthday boy of course. I think it will be great for him, a way to channel all that energy!

We had some wicked storms come through Wednesday afternoon, and the power at the HS got messed up. Andy said only half the lights were on at any one time yesterday, and since two of his classes are computer based, he did a lot of sitting around.

Late last night we got a phone call, the HS is closed today because they still haven’t fixed the power. Andy suddenly grew one of those smiles that you try to fight off but they just keep coming back because you’re genuinely happy. I think I heard a cheer pulse through the air as word spread through town.

Good thing I have plenty of little projects to keep him busy today .

No, I don’t mind, really, but everytime I go to a PTO meeting I end up volunteering for something. Two hours at the book fair (day one at the elementary school, no one is buying so that’s easy) and two hours at the spring fair. I’ll be in charge of the Super Slide. Wheeeeee!

I just called our school superintendant’s office to ask about how to become a substitute teacher next fall. The woman on the phone sounded very happy to be sending me a packet I need to complete. I know through the grapevine that they’re generally desperate for subs here, so I feel pretty confident that I’ll be hired. I hope I’m not deluding myself.

There are lots of moms who work in the school district. A few are subs, more are aides, maybe one or two are bus drivers, and a couple are actual certified teachers. The aide jobs seem to go fast, I guess because they don’t need a bachelor’s degree and the hours are usually part time. But they’re always short on substitutes. To me, it seems like a perfect opportunity to get back into the workforce while still being here for the kids.

Anyway, I don’t even know exactly what the criteria are, so I guess I’ll just wait for that packet to arrive!
