Things we do for our children dept.

Tuesday, June 15th, 2004

The last week of school for three kids means a crazy schedule. Dropping off and picking Andy up when he doesn’t have exams, remembering to be at the bus stop at the right time when Tim has a half day, bringing paper plates for the last day pizza party…

Today Nick’s class is having a tasting party for recipes the kids put into a class cookbook. Did Nick contribute something easy, something he could have brought to school this morning? No. He contributed “Marinaded Burgers” (sic). Grilled burgers basted with Italian dressing. Have we tested this recipe yet? No. But I have to provide enough for each kid in the class to have a taste by 1:30 this afternoon. I’ll make them on the George Forman, and hope for the best!

Fixing things

Monday, June 14th, 2004

I had such plans for today. I actually got some done. Dropped off Andy at school (he has exams this week) then ran to Target and Stop & Shop for a few things. Came home and popped on to CG to check a message and… nothin’. 500 error. Hmm, well, no biggie, probably a server glitch. Except people started emailing me, turns out the site had been down for a few hours. And I’m the admin, so I’m supposed to fix it. And I didn’t want Kerry to have to deal with it, he just came home from the hospital! So I bunkered down for the duration.

5 hours and a support ticket later, the problem is fixed. But geez, that was just not a fun 5 hours! Not like I get paid for this :yeahright:. It’s cool, though, I learned a little more, a got a few cheers from the crowd.

And now it’s back to those things I was supposed to be doing today!

Tada!

If you’re reading this it means my move to WordPress was successful. I think I worked out the major bugs. I’m sure there will be some broken links and images in the archives, but I caught the bulk of them in two separate trial installations.

I have a few other bells & whistles I’d like to add, but they’ll come in time. I’m just happy to get the big stuff overwith :curtsey:!

Ladybugs

Be sure to read the reviews. Don’t know how long they’ll last, though!

A pain in his arm and a request for an aspirin

The board owner over at CG (my “boss”) had a heart attack the other night, and those were the clues he gave off to his wife. That’s some scary shit. He’ll be fine, should be home by Sunday, according to his wife. But I guarantee, he never saw this coming.

Why do we think we’re invincible until something horrible happens to us? Or is it more of live life the way we want because you never know when it might just be over? I think for me it’s the latter. I try to live a healthy-ish life. I don’t smoke, only drink occasionally, but my diet could be better and I certainly don’t get enough exercise (except my finger muscles, they’re in extraordinary shape from all this typing…) I know I can do better, but I don’t. Maybe because I could suffer though eating all that tofu and lettuce, get myself all sweaty and in pain from working out, then get hit by a bus outside my house.

I know, lousy excuse. But I’m not the only one. I have a friend with a serious medical issue who routinely ignores her doctor’s advice, or doesn’t even seek it out. It’s not because she doesn’t know better, so why?

The top item on my todo list today, find a ridiculously crazy get well card, then write a mushy note in it for Coastal.

Someone googled “brown inchworms in bathroom” and hit me.

Ooh, they just put the speed indicator right outside my house. It’s one of these…

… the speed limit here is 25. People always speed down our road. Hopefully this will help, at least until they move it (we have just the one in town, they shift it from place to place.)
