Great Adventure (not)

Wednesday, August 18th, 2004

We went to Great Adventure yesterday. It pretty much sucked.

This is how our family celebrates birthdays

Monday, August 16th, 2004

Dad puts the Beatles Birthday on the CD player and we all bounce around to the music as we give Andy his gifts. Then we eat lobster cooked in the turkey fryer (in water, not oil!) for dinner.

Oreo cookie cake for dessert :yay:

Today is Andy’s birthday

This means that I’ve been a mom for 15 years now. Wow.

Happy birthday, Andy. You’re growing into a good man (like your dad.) I’m proud of you  .

Lash everything down!

Today my sister is throwing a bash to celebrate the 40th birthdays of herself and her husband. Unfortunately a little storm name of Charlie is heading up the coast for a visit. He’s not supposed to arrive until tomorrow morning, but the first bands are already dampening us, and it looks like we’re in for a wet night. Luckily we’re staying with my parents overnight, just around the corner, so we can hunker down and make good use of the frozen drink maker she rented for the occasion. Hurricane party!

Thank God I feel free to celebrate, though, two friends and the son of another were right where Charlie arrived yesterday, Ft. Myers and Port Charlotte, FL. All are safe, but I’m sure they have stories to tell when the power comes back.

Back to here- we’re supposed to get a lot of rain, though the winds are dying down a lot. Last time the remnants of a hurricane came through here it was Floyd, and half our back yard was under water. We’ve brought in things that might fly away, and lifted precious items (read PS2 and Game Cube) off the floor of the basement, now just hoping for the best!

In honor of my sister’s 40th birthday…

… a birthday meme. Found this one at The Mommy Blog, you can find the whole thing here.
Pick your birth month and cross (strike) out what doesn’t apply to you. To strike out you use the S tag. So for the cross out you would surround the "strike out" with <s>strike out</s> . Then post the whole list for the next person or link back to here.

Life’s never boring when you live in New Jersey

So, the governor is gay, his former lover (you know, the Israeli he thought would make a good homeland security chief for our state despite the fact the guy couldn’t get security clearance?) has been blackmailing him. All kinds of nasty stuff in the papers today about this relationship.

Actually it appears that half the state knew or strongly suspected he was gay, anyway. I had heard that he “wasn’t with his wife” (wink wink nudge nudge) on his trip to Cape May last year when he broke his leg- I hadn’t heard he was with the boyfriend, but apparently every cop in NJ knew the truth.

The thing that bugs me is people saying he resigned because he’s gay. He resigned because he was threatened with a lawsuit that would severely undermine him. Not because he is gay, but because he lied about being gay and it came back and bit him big time.

And gay advocates are saying this is a great thing, a gay governor, yay! Um, a disgraced governor who has denied to everyone including his wife that he is gay, who has led a life of deception and screwed the people who voted for him (including me) and is about to resign, this is nothing to cheer about, people.

Are there any honest politicians? If there are, can they make it to the top and remain honest? Is the system that fucked up?
