Nope, once again

Every day I get at least two credit card offers in the mail. Very funny considering I haven’t had a paying job in over 15 years! Normally I shred them into bits and toss them away, but lately there’s been this tantalizing twist, scratch off cards that say I may just Win My Own Private Island!! Imagine what I could do with one of those! Jet off for weekends alone, sitting on the beach. Romantic interludes with my man :playnice: . Abandoning the kids and waving as we disappear into the sunset while they search for shelter and food… OK, maybe not that last one.

I must have received 15 of these things so far. Sadly all with the same result: loser :shakehead: .

Well then, just see if I apply for your card! Ha!

Things people do to help that don’t really

Loading the dishwasher- big help! Leaving chunks of hardened mozzarella cheese on the dinner plates- not so much.

Putting away the sneakers I kicked off and left in the corner of the den - thanks! Tossing them into the back of the closet under the clothes so I don’t find them until I’ve already had to put on a different pair as I run around trying to get the Kid Who Missed The Bus Again to school- no thanks.

Telling me you’ll have some great ideas for a project I’m working on in a couple weeks after some research, knowing and acknowledging that I’m on a deadline- that would be great! Disappearing and leaving me having to scramble for another source- that’s just really irritating.

Wonder what the rest of the day will bring?

The seach continues (the looking part)

Yesterday Andy and I went to his first college open house. I was amazed at how many people showed up, and apparantly so was the school- they had to have two opening sessions with the university president because we couldn’t all fit into the theater for the originally scheduled one session.

It was a state college, one of the “lower tier” schools based on admissions criteria, but NJ state schools are all becoming increasingly competitive, and I came away impressed. Andy wasn’t feeling well so we didn’t do the campus or dorm tours, but we did speak to one of the political science instructors about options for pre-law, and Andy came away from that impressed enough to keep this school on “the list.”

A major plus- they have the lowest tuition in the state and many merit scholarships to offer. A major minus (depending on point of view)- the campus is only about 15 miles away. Too close to home for dorm living? Of course, those 15 miles are along the absolute worst stretch of traffic-filled roadway in NJ, so the actual driving time can easily hit one hour each way. In fact, on our way home we crawled along at 10mph for a good 5 miles (Cat, I do believe you know the road of which I speak…) On a highway. Due to volume. Ugh. So housing on campus would definitely be the way to go. Especially because he’ll turn 17 (in NJ the age eligible to get a drivers license) 2 weeks before the start of his freshman year. And if he’s like me at all there’s no guarantee that he’ll actually get his license on his birthday. There is no way I’m going to drive my son to college every day :ohreally: .

Um… I got nothin’

Today I weeded and cleaned up the front yard, whittled down 7 Rubbermaid boxes of old clothes to 3 worth keeping, and, um, isn’t that enough for one day?

Those of you waiting for the completed bathroom pix don’t have much longer to wait! Pat installed the “over the john” cabinet (yes it’s really called that on the box it came in), I just have to get in there and clean it up a bit. And maybe add one more piece of “art” for the walls (no pix of me with princesses, mind you… if any of you get that joke, let me know how the heck you found my blog :rollie: !)

Tim’s cold has created massive amounts of mucus which are running down his throat, causing him to cough, then causing him to gag and upchuck said mucus. Cleaning up after stuff like this is a huge drawback of motherhood.

I’d like to apologize…

Those last two posts were pretty mindless. Been reading too many Xanga blogs :eh: . Sorry.

Scrollin’ scrollin’ scrollin’

Why is it annoying to scroll horizontally but not vertically? I just landed on two blogs that required horizontal scrolling, and I liked the designs, but found it irritating to scroll left to right. Is it because there’s no wheel on my mouse to do that? I think that’s probably the answer.

I can scroll left and right using mouse gestures with Firefox, but it’s even more annoying to do it that way than to just grab the scroll bar.

Someone out there should invent a mouse with a horizontal scroll wheel. Unless they have already, then someone out there should tell me where to find one.

Ooh, went to Kohls to return a too-small sweatshirt I bought last week, and get some pants for Pat. I grabbed a couple sweaters for myself on sale cheap and figured I’d see if I could find a new winter jacket. Nothing wrong with the one I have except it’s huge. I got it on sale at Eddie Bauer about five years ago, and at the time I was about 20 lbs heavier. I fit nicely into a medium rather than a large these days. Although it is extremely warm, and kept me toasty this past frigid winter, it’s not exactly attractive!

So, I’m looking at the jackets when I see that there are a few leather coats on sale for half price. I haven’t owned a leather coat since around 1988, and buying another hadn’t even crossed my mind till I saw these. But I found one that I really liked, tried it on and it fit perfectly, even a little wiggle room in there for a heavy sweater. It has a faux-fur lined hood, and a toasty zip out liner. Best part- it was on sale for only $99, and they were giving $10 coupons for every $50 spent, so that brought the cost down to about $80, which is about what I was expecting to spend on a new jacket anyway. . Doncha just love when stuff like that happens?
