I’ve spend a good number of hours the past couple days looking for a new home equity line. The value of the house has gone way up, and it seems such a sin to keep all that money locked up in a building, don’t you think?
I went to L*nding Tree where we found our existing HELOC (the one that’s nearly maxed out…) and got a bunch of offers, followed by a bunch of phone calls. I let the machine catch most so I can decided which banks I want to give the time to, but I picked one up this morning just to see what they had to say. Brent from Big Bank Of Neighboring State (BBSONS) was a talkative guy, good sense of humor, quickly answered all my questions and in the end came back with an offer that was just short of perfect. Which is probably as close to perfect as I’m gonna get. I’ll feel out a couple more but unless they offer me a zero interest loan, I’ll probably give my business to nice guy Brent.
The biggest time waster in all this was the bank I currently have a line with. I called and asked to have my limit raised, they told me to apply for a new, bigger line on the web site. So I went to the web site and tried EIGHT SEPARATE TIMES to get past the first page of the application. I tried all different methods, cleaned out my cache and cookies, still no go :hmph: . Finally out of desperation or boredom, I tried to do it with IE instead of Firefox… an it worked. I hate when that happens. Overall I just didn’t get that warm fuzzy they want to keep my business feeling. Part of me hopes they come back with a shitty offer so I can say gee, sorry I made you go through all that trouble… no thanks.
You are better than me…..Eric has to do that kind of stuff…I’m totally going “HUH?” with numbers. Nice guy Brent sounds like the one to go with!
And here I’m dreading possibly having to dip into our HELOC to pay for Eric’s senior (if not junior) year of college. I’d love to have the house paid off, which is would be by now if we hadn’t run our HELOC up so high the first time that we ended up refinancing.
While searching for the scavenger clue, I wanted to comment here. I just got a home equity loan by using LendingTree.com. The best deal (and least obnoxious rep) came from esmartloan.com. I can send you the guy’s email address if you want. :)
