And if I die before I wake…

I don’t have a living will. I know I should, we all know we should. It’s just one of those things on “the list” of life that I just never get to.

That said, I will make this statement here, on my public blog, which is read by friends and family and strangers: If I am diagnosed to be in a persistant vegetative state with no hope of recovery, please - let me go.

I really do feel for Terri Schiavo’s parents. I can’t imagine going through the heartbreak they’ve gone through. But honestly, I can’t imagine holding on so tightly that I couldn’t let my child go.

I admit I’ve avoided this story. On the surface I’ve supported Terri’s husband, but I never really read enough to feel I could fairly take a side.

I was directed to a few websites, though, that anyone who wants to get at the truth should read. It becomes quite clear why all the judges who’ve reviewed this case have come to the same conclusion… all all the more odd that the federal government has seen fit to get involved.

I whole heartedly agree. I told both Eric and Ashley the other day DO NOT let that be me! I think I will contact a WW’s member who is a lawyer and get going on that living will!

  2. Karen says:

Brian and I already have directives written out and notarized. We don’t want to prolong the inevitable, either.

  3. When we updated our wills years ago, the attorney recommended living wills and durable powers of attorney at the same time. We’ve also discussed our thoughts on it, because the livign will is actually rather vague.

I have to say that I have no respect for the way Mr. Schiavo has lived his life, but I don’t understand the parents’ insistence on keeping their daughter alive in that condition.
