Maybe it will be easier just to change my phone number…

Shortly after we moved here we started getting mail addressed to a guy named Scott L——- (leaving it blank because god forbid anyone decides to google the guy and they hit here!) It was mostly collections letters from traffic fines, etc. I sent every single one back to sender with the notation that the guy didn’t live here.

They let up for awhile, I’d say I might have even gone a couple years with no Scott letters. Then an interesting new twist. I started getting phone calls.

Apparently at least one collection agency has done a backwards search on my phone number and now they’re calling looking for Scott. The numbers are always either blocked or show unknown name & number on my caller ID, so I don’t answer them, but a couple have left messages inadvertantly, thinking they got a person rather than a machine, so I know who they want.

One message a couple days ago- “Hello, is Scott there? … Helllllo? … You pick up the phone and don’t talk?” Then she mumbled something and hung up.

That just ticked me off.

Today the phone rang and the Caller ID said unknown. I answered anyway. A man asked for Scott. I said “There’s no Scott here.” and he responded, “Listen, lady…” WHOA. That wasn’t very nice of him.

So I lit into him, told him they needed to stop calling my number, there’s no Scott here and there never has been. He started to argue back, I don’t even know what he was saying because I was (probably stupidly) trying to explain that this guy Scott used our address but I had no idea who he is and if they didn’t stop calling our number I was going to file a police report (against who, I don’t know, except of course I think maybe I should have a report on file against this Scott guy…) Anyway, the guy looking for Scott hung up, but something tells me that won’t be the last time they call.

I probably shouldn’t have answered the phone, huh?

  1. The person who had our phone number before us was a pharmaceutical rep, and we got calls for her for YEARS. At least they weren’t as annoying as the ones you seem to be getting.

Sounds like it was a good idea not to include his last name. You’d hate to have those collection agencies hounding your blog!

My cell # must have been used by two different people. I’m constantly getting calls for the same two people. It’s so annoying. And they’re just wanting to hang out! Grrr, I’d have a feeling I’d have lit into the guy too….especially after the “listen lady” comment!

My step son and my husban share the same first and last name. Different middle names though. I picked up the phone one day and somebody asked for my husband..I asked what middle initial? They were like huh? So I explained that this lawyer looking to collecton my step son had the wrong address and phone number. Two times I explained this to them but they kept calling. Finally I told them that if they called back that I would file a complaint against them. I had their address because my step son’s collections had been coming to our house. One day they called and I got really mad and said a few choice things, then handed my husband the phone. He also told them all that I had and hung ug. I finally blew up at my husband about him not calling his son and telling him to get his financial matters in order, call these people and give them correct information. He did, and so did his son. Why didn’t I tell my step son myself? Because I wouldn’t have chosen as many polite words as my husband did and that’s not an area I wanted to go to with my step son. Grief I wrote a lot.

I misspelled a lot too. Did I misspell misspell? How do you spell misspell anyway?! It’s too late. Good Night.

Change your number or see if you can get these callers blocked. Or screen everything.
