He’s in!

Friday, November 11th, 2005

Andy was accepted and offered a Presidential scholarship, renewable all four years! Still three more applications to do but this is nice, having a school he really likes already done.

Me, I liked the academics, etc, but the campus was eh. Of course, I don’t have to live there, so it doesn’t much matter what I think!

The next step

Tomorrow we head out into the unknown- the world of applying to college. It’s an instant decision day- we show up on campus application (and fee) in hand. After submitting the papers we get a tour of the campus, have a little lunch- two hours later we get The Decision. Of course, they pre-qualify the kids who go to these things, and Andy was well above the criteria cut off, so I’m not forseeing a “no”, but it’s still a little nerve-wracking. But the teacher recommendations are done (and mighty nice, I must say) and the essay has been fine-tuned. The good part is that it’s only a commitment on the school’s part to accept him- he doesn’t have to commit to going till the spring. so it’s a nice thing to have in your back pocket. Or front pocket in this case- I think this is the school that tops his list at the moment.

Plus, 4 hours in the car (2 there, 2 home) just me and The Boy. I’m looking forward to that part.

Multi-tasking or Brain-scrambling?

Ok, now that I’m done listening to the first two parts of the Springsteen podcast, I’m wondering something… am I the only one who completely can’t get anything done while listening to podcasts, talk radio, etc? I was surfing round the web while listening and kept losing track of what I was doing- or losing track of what was being said on the podcast- I just can’t do both. And I feel like a slacker if I just sit and listen. I guess that’s another reason to get back out walking- I can listen to podcasts and walk without tripping, anyway!

I’m in heaven- I’ve discovered the official Born to Run 30th Anniversary Podcast-
if you have iTunes subscribe to it at:
http://feeds.feedburner.com/BruceSpringsteen. It’s like an oral history of the album.

Almost makes up for missing the shows later this month… almost.
