Vrooooommmm!

We might be getting a Mustang, that would be pretty cool! It’s a 2000, but apparently in good shape with very low milage.

We had one back in olden days, a white ‘83. That was a horrible year for Mustangs, but it was a convertible. It had a “white” top that was filthy and impossible to clean, but in the summer with the top down it was very much fun . We were in our early 20s, no kids- it was perfect for us. We bought it with our wedding cash in 1986, and it lasted about 3 years, multiple road trips, and more than it’s share of bang-ups .

We sold it when I was pregnant with Andy (not about to put an infant seat in the back with the top down, and with the top up, it was a pretty crappy car.) It was heading downhill by then anyway, and needed engine work. Pat sold it to one of the ubiquitous used car dealers on Rt. 46 for $1000. The guy gave him cash without even checking it out (if he had he would have noticed the exhaust coming out of the engine compartment.)

Pat headed down the road to a pay phone and called me to come pick him up “quick” before the guy realized what he got for his money!

So it would be fun to drive one again, even if only temporarily. The “plan” is that we’ll be the short-term custodians and Andy will take it over in a year or so. Of course, he may have to pry the keys out of my hands.

Pat’s checking it out on Friday. We’re doing the single car shuffle for now.

  1. Cool! But I’d think twice (or more) about passing it on to Andy. That’s an awful lot of car for a new driver and you’ll be amazed at the difference it will make in his insurance rates (which will already be astronomical).

So is it a convertible?? I keep saying when the kids are gone, I’m getting a convertible! I don’t want them borrowing my car! Hope it’s everything you need!

Naw, Lisa, not a convertible. Maybe next time!

I’ve thought those thoughts about passing it on to Andy, BGM. I’d definitely hesitate to pass a muscle car on to Nick! But Andy’s not a big risk-taker, if you know what I mean. As far as the insurance, we’ll try to keep costs down with a high deductible, etc!
