Yardsale!

Saturday, April 29th, 2006

It wasn’t so bad. Made almost $300. Got rid of a LOT of stuff. Funny what people will buy and what they won’t. I’d try to come up with a funny anecdote about the day but I’m too damn tired. Nothing really funny happened, I guess… just a boring yard sale!

A good amount of what is left is ebayable, some will be donated, some I’ll keep to try to sell later.

Did I just say that? Might I do this again? Yeah, maybe in another 20 years…

For sale

Friday, April 28th, 2006

I’m finally having my yard sale tomorrow. The one I’ve been talking about having for about 5 years. Right now I’m taking a break from pricing things because I keep rethinking my prices, going up, going down. I looked up some items on ebay and was shocked by what people are charging- and getting- I saw a Little Tikes toddler climber exactly like the one I’m selling except the one on ebay was sunfaded and looked dirty in the photo- mine was never outside and it’s in great shape. I was thinking of asking $25- found on ebay even the faded one is going for over $50 + $35 shipping! So I raised my price to $40. I put an ad for the sale on craigslist and a neighbor emailed me that she was interested in the climber, I told her the details, she came by last night and bought it plus a pack n play. I gave her a $5 discount on both items, I’m just happy to see them go! A sale before I even started, :woohoo:.

This is the first time I’ve used craigslist. I was pricing classifieds in the paper and they were around $50 for just the basic info. For free on craigslist I posted a ginormous ad with lots of details, even a photo of some of the stuff. I suppose if I lived on a back road I’d be concerned about getting more traffic, but on this road, between two major thoroughfares (which will have signs at the corners) I know I’ll get plenty of traffic. Plus the weather will be great (sunny, mid 60s) and it’s Little League opening day so pretty much every family in town will be out and about. With all the kid stuff I’m selling, that’s perfect.

Wish me luck!

I bought a new t-shirt at Kohl’s the other day. Just a basic shirt but with some sequins on it. Which are sewn on horribly, I keep getting my hand caught in the threads when I pull it on.

I suppose they expect people to just rip them out by accident, though, because attached to the tag was this- a little baggie of extra beads & sequins.
sequins
WHO is going to go through the trouble of trying to sew new sequins on a $10 t-shirt?

Of course, I can’t even be bothered to sew a button back on, so maybe I’m the odd one.

Paraphrased, you get the drift…

Usual Suspect (via email): So, when are they rescheduling Volunteer Day?

Friend Who Helped Organize: I told you, it was rain or shine. With a few exceptions, everyone showed up and and we got a ton of stuff done!

Usual Suspect: Oh, ok. Just wanted to close the circle on that.

Giant Tires

I had a lot of fun this weekend. We helped clean up, lugging giant tires out of the woods as part of an Earth Day town wide clean up.
Despite the rain and cool weather a lot of people showed up (and the usual suspects did not ) and made a difference. I’m most proud of Nick, who rallied his Scout troop to help spread mulch at the elementary playground, where it was much needed. They took care of that a couple weeks ago, since they had a camping trip planned for this weekend. Luckily it was in cabins, not tents.

Saturday afternoon Pat & I headed out to Long Island for my aunt’s 75th birthday. We had fun, got silly with the cousins (because when we leave the kids home we are the kids in my family.) We even formed a sekret society . Saw photos of my great-grandparents I don’t recall ever seeing before.

Reason number 357 why I love Jon Stewart.

The Decider

(may need to allow pop-ups to play video)

Scary

Asked why he would offer to resign after Abu Ghraib but not now, Rumsfeld replied, “Oh, just call it idiosyncratic.”

Are there any sane people who actually have the President’s ear? Does he even know about the retired Generals who want Rumsfeld out?

“I hear the voices, and I read the front page, and I know the speculation. But I’m the decider, and I decide what is best.

Hmm, guess he does. Makes it even worse.

And, uh, there’s this.

TEHRAN (Reuters) - President Bush refused on Tuesday to rule out nuclear strikes against Iran if diplomacy fails to curb the Islamic Republic’s atomic ambitions.
