Summertime!

Friday, May 26th, 2006

Yay! When I was younger I loved spring. All the new flowers, the breezes that were warmer than the still air…

But for the past few years I’m totally into summer. Heat and humidity - mmm hmm! Last summer for the first time I really got our money’s worth out of our ridiculously expensive pool membership. I even went when I didn’t have to have a kid there for a swim lesson. I even jumped in and swam around myself! I even took a water aerobics class or two!

This summer I have plans. I’m going to take more water aerobics classes. I’m going to read books instead of just pretend to read books while I wonder what that clique over there could possibly have to talk about every day for three months. Maybe I’ll even go over there and ask them what they possibly could be talking about. I’m going to drag my kids along whether they want to be there or not. I’m not going to yell at them to swim instead of playing wall ball or looking at Pokemon cards. I’m going to use my guest passes!

They say Sunday & Monday will be sunny with temps in the 80s. Maybe for the first time ever I’ll head to the pool on opening weekend, plop myself down in a chair, and stake my space for the next three months.

It may be my last chance to just wallow freely in the summer heat.

Yesterday…

Pat & I went into NYC to spend the morning at the Whitney Museum for their Biennial. I love photographic art, film, video, and I wasn’t disappointed. I wish I’d had time to explore some of the longer works, but it was nice to see some art in person, so much different than seeing it in a magazine or on TV.

We even ran into a couple of Andy’s classmates there on a field trip :).

Not a happy customer right now…

The webhost for pretty much every other website I own/work on has been down all morning. Not just a server, because I have stuff on a bunch of servers, but even their home page doesn’t load. This happened a little while back, too. Very frustrating- especially for the business sites. :furious:

A rainy day, etc

The weather’s turned nasty, so work on the house remains stagnant. Should be nice the first part of next week, though. I have a few errands to run later but really I’m just not in the mood to do much, and the weather has me convinced that being lazy (for a second day in a row) is a decent option.

Yesterday I was feeling kinda lousy from a cold. I sat and read a book. All day. It’s a very interesting, and very controversial, book (no, not The Da Vinci Code!) and I couldn’t put it down!

It’s called The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason by Sam Harris. I can’t say I agree with everything he says, but it does help at least clarify how some of my own thinking has changed over the past 4.5 years. Things I believed to be right and wrong pre 9/11 aren’t so clear to me anymore. In fact I’ve complete reversed my thinking on some issues. I gained some insight on that. I recommend the book, but it’s not for everyone. I know lots of people who would put up defenses before reading a page. He has some harsh words for all three Abrahamic religions, and if you can’t read it with an open mind, it may not be worth your time. Still, in my perfect world most people would give it a read and and at least hear what he has to day, even if it goes against everything you personally believe is truth. Do I think this book can do what the author wants, and change the world? Of course not. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t something to what he’s saying.

Speaking of The DaVinci Code, Andy gave me Angels & Demons for Mothers Day. Maybe I’ll start that one next. Anyone else see the incredible hype for The DaVinci Code movie last night? They had shows praising it, debunking it, analyzing it- everything from PAX to A&E to SciFi to Discovery… I’m surprised there was nothing on The Food Network!

My yard is TRASHED!

But that’s ok, it’s worth it. Construction has begun! It rained the past two days but today has been dry and even occasionally sunny, so our contractor has been here digging, the inspector came and inspected, and now they’re pouring the foundation.

I feel like a little kid, this is so cool!

DSCN6374.JPGGot a pedicure today, first time ever. It was very nice :curtsey: .

I’ve never been one for doing girlie things but I’m getting girlier as I get older.

Mothers Day

This what I got for Mothers Day- a new monitor! It’s a 19″ LCD and I’m already loving it.

As mentioned in this post the monitor that came with my Dell system was a mess, and I’ve been using an almost 10 year old monitor made by CyberMax (remember them? … *crickets*). It was good enough but this is just soooo much better!

I’m a happy mommy.
