A rainy day, etc

The weather’s turned nasty, so work on the house remains stagnant. Should be nice the first part of next week, though. I have a few errands to run later but really I’m just not in the mood to do much, and the weather has me convinced that being lazy (for a second day in a row) is a decent option.

Yesterday I was feeling kinda lousy from a cold. I sat and read a book. All day. It’s a very interesting, and very controversial, book (no, not The Da Vinci Code!) and I couldn’t put it down!

It’s called The End of Faith: Religion, Terror, and the Future of Reason by Sam Harris. I can’t say I agree with everything he says, but it does help at least clarify how some of my own thinking has changed over the past 4.5 years. Things I believed to be right and wrong pre 9/11 aren’t so clear to me anymore. In fact I’ve complete reversed my thinking on some issues. I gained some insight on that. I recommend the book, but it’s not for everyone. I know lots of people who would put up defenses before reading a page. He has some harsh words for all three Abrahamic religions, and if you can’t read it with an open mind, it may not be worth your time. Still, in my perfect world most people would give it a read and and at least hear what he has to day, even if it goes against everything you personally believe is truth. Do I think this book can do what the author wants, and change the world? Of course not. But that doesn’t mean there isn’t something to what he’s saying.

Speaking of The DaVinci Code, Andy gave me Angels & Demons for Mothers Day. Maybe I’ll start that one next. Anyone else see the incredible hype for The DaVinci Code movie last night? They had shows praising it, debunking it, analyzing it- everything from PAX to A&E to SciFi to Discovery… I’m surprised there was nothing on The Food Network!
