Today I hugged my nine year old son

A mom in a shore town here in NJ killed her nine year old son yesterday. My nine year old son was in the room with me when the story came on the local news.

I started tearing up and went over and gave him a hug. I’d been washing dishes and my hands were damp. He let me hug him for a second then squealed “Ah, you’re all wet!”

He started wiggling and squirming around, I laughed and let him go.

He asked “What was that hug for?” We hug each other often. It’s not unusual for him to just wander over for a hug out of the blue, multiple times a day. But he knew, there was something more to this hug.

I didn’t know what to say, so I told him I loved him and sent him off to play.

So sad, and I’ve BTDT on hugging the kids when they least expect it. Like the time in TX whne one of Ashley’s 1st grade classmates, his dad and 2 brothers all died in a boating accident. Or her 4th grade classmate who died in an auto accident (incidently, she had a 3rd grade classmate also die in a car accident). It makes you want to just hold onto your kids and never let them go!

I rarely watch the local news cause that’s about all you get out of it. It just makes me cringe. My son is only with me part time so it makes it really bad when you see something like that and you can’t reach over and wrap your arms around your kid.

As for that woman that killed her son. Where the hell do all these freaks come from?

Oh, my. I will never understand how someone can kill a child, especially his/her own. I’m glad I at least apologized to my daughter tonight for being crabby with her earlier.

Annie, I know you’re focusing more on your other blog, but how ’bout one more post here so I don’t see this one when I check for updates? Oh, and how about making it a happy one? Thanks!
